Show Report: Off Road Ranch

Posted By Mr. Hand on September 29th, 2009

Consider the Ranch Rocked!

With the assistance of Street Legal, Paradise City (Guns N’ Roses tribute band), and Battery (Metallica tribute band), we brought the rock to the Off Road Ranch. It turned out to be a great day to take in some live music and also check out some dare devils grab major air while doing jumps on their 4-wheelers.

From our perspective it was surreal to be rocking out while seeing guys do massive jumps on their quads! Quite a sight to see! We opened the show and had a great time catching up friends from Street Legal as well as many other local musicians before and after our set. It was great to see everyone and we wish we could do these get togethers every weekend!

Big thank you’s to the Off Road Ranch, Ralph Johnson, Brad and Amanda from The Depot for getting us involved with this show. We hope we can do it again next year!

Show Report: The Depot

Posted By Mr. Hand on September 27th, 2009

We’re a little behind getting this show report posted. After last week learning about the passing of a friend it was hard to think of much else.

So we spent last weekend in Norfolk, NE with a show at The Depot on Friday night and then at the Off Road Ranch on Saturday afternoon. Friday at The Depot was another rock and roll party. We were able to debut some new covers on our setlist and also share the stage with some old friends of ours, Street Legal. As is usually the case, there were plenty of familiar faces at the show.

We’ll get the rundown and pictures from the Off Road Ranch show up soon.

Remembering our friend Claudia

Posted By Bret on September 23rd, 2009

One of the great things about being in this band is that we get to meet so many wonderful people. One of those people was Claudia Trujillo.

claudia and the gang

Claudia used to come out to nearly all our shows in Sioux City at Rhonda’s Speakeasy, Icky Nickel, The Patio, etc. She would even drive over to Norfolk or West Point and other places just to hear us play some music. But the best thing about seeing Claudia at a show was that meant we got the chance to talk about what was going on. She’d teach Conrad new things to say in Spanish and we’d talk about all kinds of music and our favorite concerts.

We learned of her love for Walt Disney, Brian Wilson, The Beatles, Queens of the Stone Age, and art. We eventually discovered that she had a pretty good singing voice. So we would have her join us on stage to sing Pat Benatar’s Hit Me With Your Best Shot.

Here’s an mp3 of her singing with us. Mr. Hand with Claudia singing Hit Me With Your Best Shot.

Over the years we shared many good laughs.

Today we learned that Claudia died due to a medical complication. She was only 29. It doesn’t seem real or fair. Our hearts go out to her family and friends.

Rest in Peace Claudia. It won’t be the same without you.

Jessie’s Girl video

Posted By Mr. Hand on September 18th, 2009

Jessie’s Girl has been a very popular song that we’ve been playing in our shows for quite a few years now. In fact the only person who gets asked to play this song more than us has to be Rick Springfield himself! Even when we happen to skip over it, someone usually is there to remind us to play it!

So with that in mind we’ve uploaded this video for your viewing pleasure. This video was recorded at a street dance in Bancroft, NE this past summer. Enjoy!

New Line 6 Spider IV amp coming out

Posted By Bret on September 17th, 2009

Line 6 Spider IVI watched an interesting UStream video from Line 6 today announcing their new Spider IV amp. They went over the specs and updates from previous models of the Spider amps. Sounds like it could be a kickin little amp!

Those of you that know me know that I use a Line 6 POD X3 Pro in my rig to help me get the variety of sounds I need when we play. So, I’m always curious to see new products and developments from Line 6.

One of the early complaints of Line 6 products was that they couldn’t emulate the feel of the tube amps they were simulating. But as with most technology-based products, subsequent versions of the product improve on their limitations. So far this appears to be the case with Line 6. I know that I’ve been pretty happy with the sounds that I’m able to get out of my POD X3 Pro.

I’m definitely very curious to try out one of these new Spiders. They look like they could be good practice amps as well as good gigging amps. And if they’re anything close to the hype, this amp might be a big seller for those players who are just starting out, weekend warriors (like me), all the way up to pro players.

Have you played one? What do you think?

Show Report: Phoenix Room

Posted By Mr. Hand on September 6th, 2009

This past weekend at the Phoenix Room in Norfolk must have been a weekend for celebrating. Between the birthday parties, bachelorette parties and the bar’s quest to knock us of our feet with shots…we came away with a memorable couple of nights.

In addition to all of that, we had our friend Chris and his band the Total Package play a few tunes during our set break on Friday. And of course it was great to see so many of our Norfolk friends make it out and party as well!

We’ll be back in Norfolk in a couple of weeks for a night at the Depot on 9-18 and an afternoon slot at the Off Road Ranch on 9-19. Until then, here’s some pictures from this past weekend.

Welcome to the new look of MrHand.com!

Posted By Mr. Hand on September 3rd, 2009

You might say it was time for a fresh coat of paint on the ol’ website. About a year and a half ago we incorporated a blog-style homepage, but we finally decided to to go all out and transition the entire site to a blogging platform. We’re excited because this will allow the site to be much more dynamic and hopefully more interactive for you.

Aside from the new layout you’ll also notice more links to social networking sites making it easier for you to share things with your circle of friends. And of course the bonus for us is that all of this is much easier for us to update and maintain leaving us with more time to write and learn new songs!

We have some other cool, new features on the way but in the meantime have a look around and let us know what you think!
